Falcons Wear Down Trojans In Season Opener
WALKERTON – A small run in the third quarter helped John Glenn to a 48-40 win over Triton in the girls basketball opener for both teams Wednesday night.
Glenn held a 28-27 lead at the half, but while holding Triton to just two points for the first 7:58 of the third quarter, built a seven-point advantage, 39-32, and held on for the win.
Freshman Kinsey Atkins led the Trojans with nine points in her debut, while sophomore Taren Yates and junior Lexia Hostrawser each finished with eight points. Yates added five assists and four steals and Hostrawser had seven rebounds and two blocks. Senior Whytnie Miller returned from a knee injury suffered last season to contribute four points from the free throw line along with six rebounds. Abbey Viers checked in with six points, three blocks and two rebounds.
Glenn (1-0) was led by Jessica Yelaska’s 15 points and six rebounds. Julianne Wilk chipped in 10 points and three assists, and Seja Lang added seven points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Triton (0-1) returns to work Friday at Manchester.
