Fredrick ‘LeRoy’ Borer
Fredrick ” LeRoy” Borer, 84, Rochester, passed away at 4:47 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, at Woodlawn Hospital.
On June 25, 1935, LeRoy was born in Wauseon, Ohio. He was a treasured son of Frederick and Dorthiel Valentine Borer.
In Angola, LeRoy and Mary Alice Butler were married on April 10, 1954. They shared 58 years together. From their union came two daughters and three sons. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
With a passion for agriculture, LeRoy was a lifelong farmer. He was primarily a crop farmer, annually planting corn, beans and wheat, while turning the dirt, planting with John Deere equipment. His favorite was his general purpose A. The auctions at Polk Brothers and Yoder & Frey were a stopping place to check out the farm implements. His collection of unique pedal tractors was treasured. He enjoyed the speed of the Daytona 500 and the more local Angola Speedway. Country music concerts at the Buck Lake Ranch were a great way to relax. While on the road, the Iowa I-80 truck stop was the stop for a great meal and comradery. An annual trip to the threshers convention in June was close to his birthday and always enjoyed. LeRoy loved to watch Mike and Frank make deals on the “American Pickers” TV show.
Left to cherish LeRoy’s memory are two daughters: Joyce Dominique and husband Marty, Angola, and Janice Hawk Giesler and husband Russell, Leiters Ford; three sons: Dave Borer and wife Mary, Fayette, Ohio, Don Borer and companion Patricia Burke, Monterey, John Borer and wife Michelle, Morenci, Mich.; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Carol Gillen, Lima Ohio, Sara Sinex, Phoenix, Ariz., Julie Kuney and husband Larry of Maumee, Ohio, Marcia Regan and husband Greg, Lyons, Ohio; a brother, Philip Borer and wife Laura, Summerfield, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding LeRoy in death were his parents, wife, brother-in-law James Gillen and son-in-law Randy Hawk.
A celebration of the life of Fredrick “LeRoy” Borer will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. Pastor Bob Metzger will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Monday. Interment will be in the Leiters Ford IOOF Cemetery.
