Grace Earns Nice Road Win
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Grace’s volleyball team continued its late-season surge with a 3-1 victory at Spring Arbor on Friday.
The Lady Lancers (15-13, 9-4 Crossroads League) won their fourth-straight league contest under head coach Katie Van Hofwegen. Grace, who swept the season series with SAU, is tied for third place in the league standings.
Saturday will solve the third-place tie. Grace and St. Francis, both currently 9-4 in the CL, will play in Fort Wayne on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Deborah Michalski produced a career high with 19 kills in Grace’s win, hitting at a .471 as the most dominant hitter on the court. Alexa Hill produced a monstrous four-set stat line of 53 assists and 13 digs.
Grace had 63 kills, more than double the amount of Spring Arbor (31). The Cougars (6-16, 0-13 CL) were stifled into a .052 hitting percentage.
The Lady Lancers won the opening two sets comfortably by the scores of 25-13 and 25-18. Grace had 20 kills in the second set compared to four for SAU.
The Cougars managed to stave off a sweep. SAU trailed 19-17 but ended the third set on an 8-3 run to win the game by three.
Grace made sure to end the match in the fourth set. The Lady Lancers used a 13-1 run in the early stages, coasting to an 11-point win.
Makaela Lochmueller had 10 kills and six digs, and Harrington also had 10 kills.
Hanna Leach racked up eight kills on a .636 hitting percentage, and Jadyn Block added nine kills.
Gina Novotny led all players with 20 digs, and Grace Erwin and Emily Sharp each tallied eight digs.
