Verne Leininger
Verne Leininger, 80 died Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born April 1, 1939, in Jasper, Mich. to Verne Ernest and Esther (Garner) Leininger.
He graduated from Stryker High School, Stryker, Ohio, Manchester College, North Manchester, and Bethany Theological Seminary (1964), Richmond.
On June 22, 1963, he married Phyllis Elaine Mahan in Bristolville, Ohio.
Mr. Leininger has served in pastorates for over 50 years in Ohio, Maryland and Indiana and was a leader in outdoor ministries for the Church of the Brethren in several districts.
He was active as a 4-H leader in Garrett County Maryland 4-H Shepherd’s Club. He was also instrumental in beginning hospice services in Garrett County, Maryland where he served on the board of directors.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis (Mahan) Leininger; sons: Verne Edward Leininger (wife Kathleen Martin Leininger); John Henry Leininger (wife Alice Peters Leininger), and daughter, Barbara Leininger Dickason (husband Robert David Dickason); seven grandchildren, Sarah Leininger, Caleb Leininger, Micah Leininger, Sean Dickason (wife Joslyn Haldeman Dickason), Morgan Dickason, Leah Leininger and Dylan Leininger. Also, a great granddaughter, Amelia Grace Dickason.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Leininger Cheeseman and her husband, Robert Warwick Cheeseman, III.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Visitation will also be held from 9-10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, funeral service at Bethany Church of the Brethren, 19003 U.S. Hwy 6, New Paris. Pastor Jim Vandermark will officiate.
Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at Poplar Ridge Cemetery, Defiance, Ohio.
