MEMORIAL WINS NLC FRESHMAN TOURNEY
Another chapter was written Saturday in the Warsaw-Elkhart Memorial rivalry as the two teams went the distance in the Northern Lakes Conference freshman tournament Saturday at Wawasee.
Memorial beat Warsaw 23-25, 25-19, 16-14 in another battle between the two programs. Warsaw beat NorthWood, Goshen and Plymouth in straight sets to reach the final. For the Tigers (17-6), Delaney Silveus had 49 digs and nine aces, Lauren Eastwood racked up 72 assists, 14 aces, 11 digs and 10 kills and Maylin Marrufo had 18 digs, 16 kills, 13 aces and six blocks among Warsaw’s output.
Wawasee also went 3-1 to finish in third place. Wawasee beat Bremen, lost to Memorial, beat Concord and then Plymouth, the Plymouth score 21-25, 25-14, 15-3 in the third-place match. Alexis Mishler led Wawasee (10-15) in kills, Zoe Taylor led in blocks, Sarah Beer led in aces and Addy Trimble led in digs.
NorthWood did not report its tourney results.
WARSAW WINS NLC JV TOURNEY
Warsaw took down NorthWood 25-18, 25-16 to claim honors at the Northern Lakes Conference JV tourney held at Elkhart Memorial.
Warsaw was able to notch wins against Goshen, Plymouth and Northridge before putting away the Panthers in the final. The Tigers went 11-0 in NLC games this season and finish its junior campaign 22-4 overall.
NorthWood defeated Wawasee, Concord and Memorial in straight sets to make the final. Pacing the day for the Panthers (25-6) included Bre Wise with 31 digs, 21 kills and six aces, Jayden Gessinger with 28 assists and 17 kills and Annika Bennett with 36 assists and six aces.
Wawasee went 1-2 on the day, losing to NorthWood and Memorial then coming back on Concord, 25-23, 25-21 in its win over the Minutemen. For the Warriors (14-13), Delaney Hare had 17 digs and six aces, Lauren Miller had 10 kills, Amanda Allen and Laney Gross combined for 24 assists, and Talia Kuhl had 12 digs.LAKE
LAKEVIEW 7TH GRADE WINS BUSCO TOURNEY
Lakeview concluded its season in fine fashion in taking down Churubusco, Woodside and Edgewood at the Churubusco Tournament. The Edgewood score, 9-25, 25-23, 15-7 was the title clincher. For the day for Lakeview, Abbey Peterson and Daihya Chupp combined for 38 assists, 13 aces and 11 kills, Maggie Hollon had 19 kills, eight aces and three digs, Mia Jones had seven aces and Allyson Anderson had six kills and six digs.
Lakeview ends its season 32-2, winners of both the NELMSC conference and tournament championships along with three other tournament titles.
LAKEVIEW 8TH GRADE WINS BUSCO TOURNEY
Make it twice as nice for Lakeview, which also won its side of the Churubusco tourney. The Tigers beat Churubusco, Woodside and Edgewood, the final with Edgewood 25-16, 25-19. Lakeview had a host of helpers in the title run, with Clara Porter sending in 16 assists, nine aces, four kills and three digs, Kenzie Chivington with 13 kills, nine assists, five aces and four digs, Colette Blackburn, Sadie Humbarger and Olivia Devenney combining for 14 digs, 10 kills and 10 aces.
Lakeview ends its season 29-6, winners of both the NELMSC conference and tournament championships along with two other tournament titles.
VALLEY 7TH GRADE 1-1 AT ROLLING RIVERS TOURNEY
Valley came up short in its effort to win the Rolling Rivers Conference tournament Saturday at Southwood. Valley beat the hosts 25-22, 25-16 behind six aces and four kills from Avery Wagoner. Against Northfield, Valley lost 25-21, 13-25, 8-15. Emma Patrick led the team with four kills and two aces. Valley wraps up 16-8 overall.
VALLEY 8TH GRADE 1-1 AT ROLLING RIVERS TOURNEY
Valley met a similar fate at their RRC tourney, beat Peru 25-18, 25-18 in the first game but losing to Southwood 25-22, 25-18 in its next match. Leading the day for the Vikings were Sidney Nelson with 19 assists, seven kills and seven aces, Erika Henderson with 20 assists and seven aces, Ava Smith with 15 assists, seven aces and five kills, Jessa Schroeder with five kills and Lilly Allen with six kills. Valley wraps up its season 15-8-1.
