LAKEWOOD PARK BOYS 3, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 0
The seventh-ranked Panthers did a number on the No. 19 Cougars in the Class 1-A final at Fort Wayne Blackhawk. LPC fired 15 shots on LCA keeper Pete Koller, the backstop only able to stop 12 of them. Colton White, Jacob Hallum and Zach Collins all scored for the Panthers. The bigger story was the shutout pitched by the LPC defense, which held Parker Stewart scoreless in his final game in the LCA kit. Stewart finished his LCA career with 41 goals, which as of Saturday night, is third in the state. Josh Pike made five saves for the clean sheet.
“It was a very physical match, and we did well to match Lakewood’s physical play,” said LCA head coach Dan Miller, whose club closes at 12-6 overall. “We weren’t as sharp as we needed to be possessing the ball. However, I’m very proud of this team and the season we had. We finished the year ranked for the first time in school history.”
LPC (14-2-1) moves onto the Marion Regional to face Liberty Christian.
WEST NOBLE BOYS 3, WAWASEE 1
West Noble won the rematch of the 2018 sectional final Saturday afternoon at the Class 2-A grid at NorthWood. The Chargers used two goals from Henry Torres and a solo tally from Nestor Gutierrez to put away the pesky Warriors. Wawasee had its only goal come from Tony Garcia on an assist from Ruben Camargo, notching the goal with just under six minutes left.
“It was a tough, fought out match until the last minute,” stated Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp, whose club closes 2-13-2. “It got really intense in the last 15 minutes with us having a couple shots on frame. Overall, this season was tough, but our record doesn’t justify what we did this season. The progression we made will carry out until next season and we can’t wait.”
West Noble (16-3) will meet South Bend St. Joe at the Marian Regional.
DEKALB GIRLS 1, NORTHWOOD 0
NorthWood’s magic ran out against DeKalb in a rematch of last year’s sectional final at Lakeland. A goal from Grace Snyder in the 55th minute, a beautiful bending shot from the left wing, was all it took to send the Barons to the regional. Sydney Mansfield recorded her 12th shutout of the season.
The Panthers bid adieu to the 2019 season having Lili Lomeli made seven saves in net. NorthWood closes at 9-6-3 overall.
DeKalb (11-3-5) will face Wheeler at the Plymouth Regional.
