Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following accidents:
7:02 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, East Old Road 30, near South CR 325E, Warsaw. Driver: Robert C. Ault, 46, Kirkwood Court, Columbia City. Ault was driving his vehicle west on Old Road 30 when a deer entered the roadway. Damages up to $5,000.
5:54 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, East US 30, near East CR 900E, Pierceton. Drivers: Richard A. McCleary, 59, Dunkleberg Road, Fort Wayne; Blair J. Shumard, 38, River Birch Run, Fort Wayne; and Tabitha A. Stec, 26, West Main Street, Larwill. McCleary was driving his vehicle, pulling a 16-foot utility trailer west on East US 30 west of CR 900E. He said that he could not reduce enough speed to turn in the median to enter Maverick Cycle. HIs vehicle turned south in the median crossover and entered the east lanes. Shumard’s vehicle collided with the rear passenger’s side of McClearly’s vehicle, damaging the front end of Shumard’s vehicle. Stec was also driving her vehicle east on US 30 and her vehicle sustained damage to the rear driver’s side. McCleary suffered a minor head injury and was transported to Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne via EMS. Damages up to $50,000.
9:54 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, South SR 13, near CR 500S, Pierceton. Driver: Rick J. Henk, 42, East CR 800S, Claypool. Henk said he was driving north on SR 13 near CR 500S when an unknown vehicle struck the rear of Henk’s moped. Henk suffered a minor head injury and was transported to Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne via EMS. Damages up to $2,500.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
11:49 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, East CR 1200N, west of North Woodland Acres Drive, Syracuse. Drivers: Nathan M. Yoder, 52, North CR 400W, Milford; and Margaret M. Brooks, 76, North Main Street, Milford. Yoder was preparing to back his vehicle into a driveway when he struck Brooks’ vehicle. Damage up to $1,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to the following accidents:
10:19 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, North Park Avenue, Warsaw. Driver: Kevin L. Howard, 27, East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. Witnesses said Howard had been drinking alcohol with them at a residence at 530 N. Park Ave. and left unexpectedly. Witness one said he was on the back part of the residence when she heard a collision and saw Howard’s vehicle drive through the backyard of a residence before driving westbound on Arthur Street. Witness two heard a collision as well and saw Howard’s vehicle collide with a truck parked in the driveway, drive forward and collide with the truck again at the Park Avenue residence. Witness two saw Howard’s vehicle drive through the same backyard as Witness one. Witness three heard a collision and saw Howard’s vehicle crash into the north side of the residence at 528 N. Park Ave.. Howard exited the vehicle and proceeded to get into an argument with the owner of the residence before driving into the aforementioned truck. The house sustained damage to the vinyl siding. Howard’s truck sustained damage to the passenger right fender, passenger side of the front bumper and passenger side mirror. Howard was arrested and booked for OWI. Damages up to $5,000.
6:26 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, North Bronson Street, near East Main Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Johnathan E. Vickers, 23, Walkers Ridge, Warsaw; and Timothy D. Sprankle, 40, East Main Street, Warsaw. Vickers said he was driving his vehicle south on North Bronson Street and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of East Main Street. Vickers did not see Sprankle’s vehicle traveling west on East Main Street. The front end of Vickers’ vehicle struck the passenger side rear wheel and bumper area of Sprankle’s vehicle. Damages up to $10,000.
5:39 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, East Center Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Edward B. Franklin, 43, North Barbee Road 2, Warsaw; and David A. Morales, 54, East CR 550S, Warsaw. Franklin said he was turning his vehicle into a parking space at Walgreens directly next to Morales’ vehicle. Franklin misjudged the distance between vehicles and struck the driver’s side rear of Morales’ vehicle. Damages up to $1,000.
2:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, East US 30, near North Parker Street, Warsaw. Drivers: James O. Barton, 27, Sand Alley, Toronto, IA; and Christopher F. McCormick, 47, Guthrie Street, Adiar, IA. Barton said he was in his vehicle westbound on Lake City Highway approaching the intersection of North Parker Street. He said McCormick’s vehicle was traveling in front of him and it came to a stop in traffic at the intersection of Lake City Highway and North Parker Street. Barton said his vehicle was carrying a heavy load and was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision with McCormick’s vehicle. The front end of Barton’s vehicle collided with the trailer attached to McCormick’s vehicle. Damages up to $10,000.
12:57 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, Lake City Highway, Warsaw. Drivers: Bonnie L. Horton, 66, East Duffin Street, Columbia City; and Krista D. Nicholson, 50, Country Club Drive, Warsaw. Horton said she was in her vehicle facing north in the parking lot of Meijer. She said she stopped at the access road and was preparing to drive across Meijer Drive into the gas station parking lot. She said she did not see any vehicles traveling eastbound or westbound on Meijer Drive and began crossing the drive into the gas station. The front end of Horton’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Nicholson’s westbound vehicle. Damages up to $10,000.
Fulton County
Officers with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
7:13 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, US 31 and CR 450N. Driver: Ward D. Lavier, 61, Westfield. Lavier’s vehicle struck a deer.
6:24 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, SR 114 and CR 300S. Driver: Jeffrey R. Stratman, 62, Syracuse. Stratman failed to negotiate a curve on his motorcycle, going off the roadway. He was taken by ambulance to a landing zone in Akron and flown by Samaritan Air Ambulance to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
