Area Gyms Tabbed To Host Basketball Postseason
INDIANAPOLIS – The IHSAA announced Thursday its host sites for the 2019-20 basketball postseason.
Several of the traditional hosts will get tournaments this year, including the Tiger Den at Warsaw for the Class 4-A girls basketball sectional, The Pit at NorthWood for the Class 3-A boys basketball sectional, and the Trojan Trench at Triton for the Class 1-A boys basketball sectional and regional tournaments.
Continuing the area girls host sites include Lakeland for the Class 3-A sectional that includes NorthWood, Tippecanoe Valley and Wawasee, North Miami for the Class 1-A sectional that includes Lakeland Christian Academy, and Culver for the Class 1-A sectional that includes Triton. One note with the girls tournaments, the Lakeland sectional will have the winner travel west this year as it’s part of the four-bracket pod that includes winners from John Glenn, Knox and Calumet. In year’s past, the Lakeland winner would go east to meet Fort Wayne and Muncie area teams in the regional.
Regional sites for area girls teams include LaPorte in Class 4-A, Jimtown in Class 3-A and Caston and Tri-Central for Class 1-A. LaPorte and Logansport are the northern girls basketball semi-state sites.
For the boys, the venerable North Side Gym will again oversee Class 4-A Sectional No. 4 hosted by Elkhart Central that includes the Tigers. Class 3-A’s grid at NorthWood is a five-teamer as Fairfield dropped down to 2-A, leaving the remaining five to battle it out. The Class 1-A hosts are Triton and Southern Wells, which will invite LCA into the mix as part of the southern half of the northern draw.
Regional sites for the area boys teams include Michigan City in Class 4-A, New Castle in Class 3-A and Triton and Frankfort for Class 1-A. The venerable North Side Gym and Lafayette Jefferson are the northern boys basketball semi-state sites.
The IHSAA Girls Basketball State Finals are set for Feb. 29 at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The IHSAA Boys Basketball State Finals are set for March 28, also at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.
