Suspect Identified In Overnight Shooting That Injured Two
WARSAW — A suspect is being sought in an overnight shooting in Warsaw that injured two people.
At about 12:46 a.m. today, Oct. 8, dispatch received reports of four to five shots fired in the back part of Harrison Ridge, a housing addition off of Husky Trail across from Canterbury House Apartments, according to a Warsaw Police news release.
Officers quickly apprehended several people in the area. Investigators were called in to assist and were able to determine that three adults and a youth traveled from the Fort Wayne area to allegedly deliver marijuana to a suspect identified as 18-year-old Russell Keigan Harty.
Harty allegedly pulled out a firearm during the transaction and forced the others to empty their pockets. A short time later, Harty fired multiple shots, injuring a man and a boy.
The man was treated at the scene. The boy was shot in the shoulder and taken by people at the scene to a hospital. He was later taken to a Fort Wayne hospital.
The boy was listed in stable condition late this morning, the news release said.
Investigators are searching for Harty, who already was wanted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Warsaw Police at (574) 372-9511 or call 911.
Police said they consider Harty to be armed and dangerous.
As a result of the shooting, authorities with the Warsaw Community Schools kept students inside at certain unidentified schools during recess. Tippecanoe Valley Schools also took “proactive” steps as a result of an “incident that happened in Warsaw last evening.” The school did not elaborate on what changes were being made in a news release issued at noon today.
