Art In Action: Jansen To Exhibit At Lakeland Art Gallery
By Darla McCammon
Dean Jansen has taught himself well.
He developed an interest in photography that has led him all over the world in his travels, often accompanied by his wife and three children. His talent has allowed him to capture images that have gained him entry into juried and competitive events. He entered such events as the popular Honeywell Center annual photography contest at the Clark Center Gallery in Wabash. His attempts at Clark Gallery not only gained him entrance to the highly competitive show, but won him a first-place ribbon.
Jansen is a residence of Warsaw, having moved here 26 years ago. He came to here in order to establish a successful medical practice as an orthopedic surgeon, not because he wanted to be a famous photographer.
As a hobby at first, Jansen soon began a serious study and research in photography when he felt a need to document his family’s travels to exotic and distant places in the world. Second, only to his medical work, he found his passion for traveling with his family to be a great joy. His desire to commemorate these trips and vacations led him to continual learning and experimentation in developing a mastery in photography. He recently retired from his first love, helping people with surgery options; and now has devoted himself to more travels and continual development of his natural talent in photography.
Through Nov. 2, you can enjoy Jansen’s work at the Lakeland Art Association Gallery, 302 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw. Call (574) 267-5568 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday if you have additional questions. There will be a reception in his honor from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 20. Meet Jansen and his wife, Carolyn, in-person.
As a special program, you can visit the gallery at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 for a special presentation by Jensen titled “Travel Photography.” This is sure to be of interest to a variety of art and nature lovers. His passion for landscape, panoramic and wildlife photography will be on display. His work has bounded onto the scene with a deep appreciation from both his fans and photography judges.
Adding to his photo credentials, Jansen has had a large number of his photos published in the “Your Shot” section of National Geographic magazine, which is well-known for outstanding photography.
