Pierceton Fire Department To Host Fire Prevention Open House Saturday
PIERCETON — The Pierceton Fire Department will host its annual Fire Prevention Open House, Saturday, Oct. 5.
The event will be at the Pierceton Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members of the community can expect to have an afternoon packed full of free family fun.
Activities will include making a personal first aid kit sponsored by Lutheran EMS and Lutheran Health Network. After making their kit, children can learn about adult & child CPR. A certified car seat technician will also be onsite to answer any questions on child passenger safety and to schedule an appointment to have their child’s car seat certified.
Attendees will interact with the local firemen and first responders as they work through a multitude of stations.
Other educational opportunities include the Save A Life Smokehouse trailer, where children will practice staying in a low smoky environment and learn techniques like stop, drop & roll.
An obstacle course will test skills in being a fireman by interacting with fire equipment in the same settings as the actual firefighters.
Fire, police and EMS vehicles will be on display for children to explore and learn the differences between the vehicles.
After participating in all the educational stations, children will receive gift bags full of items donated from the event’s local sponsors.
Families are encouraged to enjoy a meal prepared by Shooting Star BBQ. Dinner includes options for hotdogs, pulled pork sandwiches, chips, baked beans, mac and cheese and dessert. Bottled water sponsored by Rabb Water or juice will be available.
Other events include a coloring contest sponsored by the Pierceton Lions Club, photo opportunities with Sparky the Firehouse Dog or bouncing in the Firedog bounce house sponsored by Cottage Watchman. The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit will perform a demonstration at noon and 2:30 p.m.
Various vendor booths will be onsite helping families in signing up their children for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and other children’s/youth programs.
By completing an evaluation form, families will be entered into a drawing for a home safety kit. The kit includes a fire extinguisher and a carbon monoxide detector. Drawings will occur every 10 minutes during the event.
