On Sept. 18, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an unwanted woman in a residence in Syracuse. The officer was assisted by an officer with the Syracuse Police Department.
Upon arrival, the officers spoke with Milburn and a man who owns the residence. The officers noticed that Milburn appeared to be impaired by a controlled substance. Officers said Milburn was hallucinating and had a difficult time communicating.
She repeatedly stated she was trying to save a crying baby in the trunk of a vehicle she had stolen. Officers did not find a baby anywhere in the vehicle.
According to court documents, the owner of the residence said he heard a noise in the residence earlier that evening. investigated the noise and found Milburn inside the residence.
Milburn told the owner of the residence to give her the keys to his vehicle. Unable to determine if Milburn was armed due to poor lighting inside the residence, he gave Milburn the keys to his 2013 Dodge Ram truck. It is unclear why Milburn wanted the homeowner’s Dodge. The vehicle also did not have a trunk.
After Milburn left the residence, he retrieved a firearm and followed Milburn outside where she was in his truck. As Milburn attempted to back the vehicle out of the driveway, the homeowner fired one shot into the air.
Milburn then stopped and exited the vehicle.
Milburn was taken into custody. In preparation for transportation, officers searched Milburn and found a glass pipe, which tested positive for methamphetamine.
She is facing an initial hearing on Thursday, Oct. 3 in Kosciusko County Circuit Court.
