Grace Feels Pure Michigan Title
ADA, Mich. – Despite battling rain and strong winds, Grace’s women’s golf team cruised to a first-place finish on Wednesday at the Pure Michigan Invitational.
Six Lady Lancers finished in the top 10 between Grace’s A and B teams, propelling Grace to a 19-stroke victory.
Freshman Carolyn Pacocha was the only player in the field to break 80, firing 77 to earn medalist honors. Pacocha played textbook golf, hitting 11 fairways and 10 greens to secure the first individual title of her young career.
Both Anna Marshall and Rachel Harvey made the All-Tournament Team. Marshall carded an 81 to finish second overall, and Harvey followed closely behind with an 82.
Sydney Abbott posted a strong 83 to finish tied for sixth place. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Lancers were Lucy Young (84) and Rebecca Hawes (84), who tied at eighth place.
Led by Harvey’s stellar performance, Grace’s B team nabbed second place in the six-team field.
Kristin Holt fired an 85, and Kara Godsey contributed an 87. Olivia Shaw (90) and Abigail Fishel (92) rounded out the scoring for the B team.
“The wind and rain made the day difficult, and Quail Ridge is already one of the most challenging courses we play,” said Grace’s head coach Dennis Duncan. “I think our margin of victory speaks to how well we played. Anna and Sydney played very well, and I was especially pleased for Rachel Harvey. Carolyn’s 77 was simply sensational!”
With three wins this season, the Lady Lancers have already eclipsed last year’s total of tournament wins (two).
The Lady Lancers return to the links on Monday and Tuesday to play in the SAU Bill Bockwitz Classic. Hosted by Spring Arbor, the tournament will be played in Jackson, Mich., at The Grande Golf Club.
