Dolores Marlene Byers
Dolores Marlene (Jordan) Byers, 85, Winona Lake, passed away at 3:51 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1934, in Kittanning, Penn. to Mary P. (Zeigler) Jordan and Bert L. Jordan. On May 26, 1956, she was married to Pastor Glenn Carl Byers in Kittanning, Penn. They shared 62 years of marriage before he passed away on Aug. 11, 2018.
She graduated from Kittanning High School in Kittanning, Penn. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Grace College in Winona Lake, and after she married Glenn and he completed his MDiv training at Grace College and Seminary in the spring of 1960. She proudly served the Lord alongside him as a pastor’s wife.
He served his pastoral ministry in the Johnstown, Penn. area, serving at the Singer Hill Grace Brethren Church until they returned to Warsaw in 1966. She and Glenn spent their lifetime spreading the Word in many interim pastorates. She held various offices with the Women’s Missionary Fellowship, where she had also held the post of National Secretary, and was Program Chairman for the Midwest District. She was a member of Lakeland Conservative Grace Brethren Church in Warsaw where she very much enjoyed fellowship with her church family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a friend to many. She would most want to be remembered for her faith in her Savior Jesus Christ and will be dearly missed by her family and countless friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Valerie Brown, Fort Wayne; Noreen (husband Michael) Pollock, Fishers; son: Brent (wife Brenda) Byers, Warsaw; and her daughter-in-law: Marlene Byers, Pierceton. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Jordan, Logan, Victoria, Lauren, Holden; and four great grandchildren: Alekzander, Malakai, Keoni, and Elias; as well as her two brothers: Wesley (Sally) Jordan, New Holland, Penn.; Terry (Beverly) Jordan, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn, sister, Marilyn Jordan, and her son, Craig Allen Byers who passed away Oct. 25, 2018.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, at The Chapel of Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin and assisted by Pastor Rob Cover. A private family graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
