Lola Collins
Lola M. Collins, 84, Rochester, passed away at 6:31 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at St. Joseph Health System of Plymouth.
On Sept. 9, 1935, Lola Mae White was born in Fulton County. She was the cherished daughter of Lester Loy and Virginia G. Swihart White. In 1953, Lola graduated from Talma High School.
In Talma, Lola and Harrold D. Collins were married on July 3, 1955. They shared 47 years of life’s adventures. From their union came three beautiful daughters: Terry, Carrie and Cindy. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
As a devoted member for over 50 years of Grace United Methodist Church, Lola also was a member of the Women’s Service Guild as well as the United Methodist Women.
In the early years, Lola worked at Rochester’s First National Bank. As entrepreneurs, Harrold and Lola opened the Burger Dairy Store in 1966. They served the Rochester area as a convenience and grocery store. In 1976, they moved to a new location across the 9th Street railroad tracks and named their store Collin’s Country Charm featuring Dean’s milk and expanding the venue to a deli, salad bar and fried chicken. In 1986, a new focus was prominent crafts and antiques. Lola and Harrold were also charter members and a force that initiated the Fulton County Round Barn Festival.
Paramount in Grandma Lola’s life was her family. With great pride, she was proud to oversee four generations and most recently the arrival of her first great-granddaughter, Olivia Mae. Holidays and special family celebrations were great times of making memories of a lifetime.
Left to cherish Lola’s memory are three daughters, Terry J. Ward and husband Mike, Rochester; Carrie L. Ranstead and husband Rick, Rochester; Cindy J. Boor and husband Billy, Downers Grove, Ill; six grandchildren: Ashlee Worrasangasilpa and husband Brian, Amie Reichl and husband Ryan, Ryan Ranstead and wife Shaylee, Nicole Ranstead, Lilly Boor and Liam Boor; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Mae Worrasangasilpa.
