WARSAW 28, NORTHRIDGE 13
Warsaw erased a 13-points deficit to rally past Northridge in Northern Lakes Conference football at Fisher Field Friday night.
A pair of Caid Lacey touchdowns in the first quarter had the Raiders up 13-0 and smelling blood. But Warsaw found its offense, as well as its defense, and clamped down. Juan Jaramillo punched the ball in from five yards out to slice the lead and Keagan Larsh passed to Jackson Dawson for 18 yards with nine second before the half.
The stunning turn of events faded into a Tiger showcase in the second half. Julius Jones exploded for a 37-yard touchdown run late in the third and Larsh added some insurance, a 34-yard scoring run, late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Northridge wasn’t short of opportunities, running 57 plays for 339 yards on the night, a nice balance of 176 passing and 163 rushing. Warsaw ran its usual playbook, toting the ball 43 times for 269 yards, gaining over six yards per carry. After a Tecmo Bowl-like week last week at Memorial, Jaramillo was ‘limited’ to 26 carries for 100 yards. Jones, however, had a career night with 101 yards rushing. Lacey led Ridge with 85 yards on 16 carries.
Warsaw (4-1, 2-1 NLC) visits Goshen next week while Northridge (3-2, 1-2 NLC) hosts NorthWood.
CULVER 44, TRITON 14
Triton put up 369 offensive yards but turned over four times in a lopsided loss at Culver Community Friday.
Culver capitalized on a trio of interceptions thrown by Connor Pitney and a lost fumble by the Trojans for six touchdowns on their home field. Jalen King single-handedly out-rushed Triton with 216 yards gained and four touchdowns in 14 carries, while Carter Stevens ran for 124 yards, and Zac Ditmire ran for another 109 yards and a score for the Cavaliers.
Porsha Udongo gained 82 yards in seven rushes, and Hunter McIntyre rushed nine times for 67 yards to lead the Trojans’ run game. McIntyre also reeled in three catches for 76 receiving yards.
Pitney went 13-25-3 through the air for 213 yards and two touchdowns — a 43-yard strike to D’Angelo Shumpert in the first period and a 12-yarder to Bryce Coppes in the fourth. Shumpert finished the night with five catches and 73 receiving yards. Chance Baxter made three catches for 43 yards.
Culver moves to 3-2 and 1-2 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference. Triton slides to 2-3 and 1-2 in the conference. The Trojans travel to Pioneer next week.
