Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following accidents:
8:02 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, SR 25, near CR 900W, Mentone. Driver: Chelsea L. Wray, 27, West CR 100N, Warsaw. Wray was traveling westbound on SR 25 near CR 900W. A semi-truck was also westbound on SR 25 and stopped to allow another semi-truck to turn onto SR 25 from CR 900W. The stopped semi in front of Wray’s vehicle started backing up to make room for the turning semi, causing the semi’s trailer to collide with the front of Wray’s vehicle. The driver of the semi continued westbound. Damages up to $2,500.
9:06 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, North Sullivan Road, 400 feet east of EMS B245 Lane, Warsaw. Drivers: Adam J. Kern, 30, North Sullivan Road, Leesburg; and Grace A. Allen, 17, North Sullivan Road, Leesburg. Kern was driving his vehicle east on Sullivan Road. He said that he believed he did not see Allen’s turn signal on and went to pass her vehicle to the left. Both vehicles collided when Allen’s vehicle completed a left-hand turn and Kern, while completing a pass on the left side of Allen’s vehicle, crashed into the driver’s side door of Allen’s vehicle. Damages up to $2,500.
10:08 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, East CR 900S, 1200 feet east of SR 13, Sidney. Driver: Katarina Ruckman, 17, East CR 900S, Sidney. Ruckman was traveling eastbound on CR 900S, east of SR 13. She drove her vehicle off the south side of the road, slightly striking a Duke Energy power pole. Ruckman overcorrected, drove off the north side of the road before sliding her vehicle across the road into a ditch, overturning the vehicle and damaging a fence. Ruckman complained of shoulder and upper arm pain and was taken by EMS to a local medical facility. Damages up to $5,000.
6:56 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, EMS T26 Lane, 25 feet south of EMS T26B Lane, Warsaw. Driver: Chloe M. Riley, 16, EMS T26 Lane, Leesburg. Riley was traveling southbound on T26 Lane when her vehicle left the west side of the road and her vehicle struck a tree. Damages up to $25,000.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department responded to the following accident:
8:44 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, South Huntington Street, 10 feet north from South Sycamore Street, Syracuse. Driver: James J. Conway, 78, East CR 600N, North Webster. Conway stated he missed the left turn onto South Sycamore Street from South Huntington Street due to the bright lights of oncoming traffic. This caused Conway to drive his vehicle into a ditch. Damages up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to the following accidents:
5:46 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, North Parker Street, 300 feet south of Husky Trail, Warsaw. Drivers: Thomas A. Ripsom, 61, EMS B20B Lane, Pierceton; and Alyssa M. Orcan, 24, Sand Piper Drive C, Warsaw. Ripsom stated he was attempting to turn right and travel southbound on Parker Street from the access road between Discount Tire and Aldi. Traffic was very congested. Ripsom stated he was waved into traffic by a vehicle stopped in southbound traffic. He slowly began to move his vehicle out into the left turn lane and struck Orcan’s vehicle. Damages up to $5,000.
4:04 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, Mariners Drive, 300 feet north of North Pointe Drive, Warsaw. Drivers: Tamara L. Senter, 55, North Park Avenue, Warsaw; and Adela A. Martinez, 48, South Redwood Road, Warsaw. Senter stated she was driving her route in her assigned school bus when she attempted to make a left hand turn to continue on Mariners Drive toward Parkview Hospital. Senter’s bus then collided with Martinez’s vehicle. Martinez was cited for never obtaining a drivers license. Damages up to $10,000.
4:01 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, US 30, 1300 feet east of Spring Hill Road, Warsaw. Drivers: Melissa J. Hartman, 51, North 175 East, Warsaw; James E. Galloway, 40, Glenfield Drive, Fort Wayne; and Lonna M. Combs, 49, CR 19, Nappanee. Hartman was traveling east on US 30. She stated that she passed through the intersection of Spring Hill Road and was approaching the intersection of Parker Street. Traffic was congested and she started slowing her vehicle. Hartman stated she did not realize traffic stopped abruptly and did not stop in time. Hartman’s vehicle collided with the rear end of Galloway’s vehicle. As a result of Hartman’s vehicle rear-ending Galloway’s vehicle, his vehicle was pushed forward and collided with the rear end of Combs’ vehicle. Damages up to $25,000.
1:46 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, SR 15, south of East Fort Wayne Street, Warsaw. Drivers: James M. Carter, 37, Rue Gauguin 1605, South Bend; and Daniel L. Whitaker, 58, Barouche Place, Fort Wayne. Carter stated he was traveling north in the left lane of Detroit Street, approaching the Fort Wayne Street intersection. Carter stated the vehicle in front of him was stopped to turn left. He attempted to change from the left lane to the right lane when his vehicle collided with Whitaker’s. Whitaker was driving in the right lane, also northbound on Detroit Street. Damages up to $5,000.
