Grace Stays Hot With Sweep Of SAU
WINONA LAKE — Grace’s men’s tennis team added another win to their 2019 total with a 7-0 victory over Spring Arbor on Saturday.
The Lancers (8-1, 7-0 Crossroads League) took two of the three doubles matches from Spring Arbor (4-3, 3-3 CL) to claim the first point of the afternoon.
In the No. 1 doubles slot, Pavle Popovic and Milan Savic won 6-3, and Max Rozas teamed with Fabricio Galvan to win 6-4 at No. 2. Jacob Gray and Ramiro Candia dropped a hard-fought 4-6 match at No. 3.
In singles action, the Lancers continued their trend of dominance. In the No. 1 slot, Rozas took the point in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).
Savic had no trouble picking up the Lancers’ third point of the contest at the No. 6 singles with a two-set victory (6-1, 6-0).
Candia avenged his doubles loss with a dominant win in singles action, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 to clinch the overall match for Grace.
Galvan added another point at No. 3 singles with a straight-set victory (6-1, 6-2), and freshman Mauricio Corty won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.
Popovic finished the day off by completing the sweep for the Lancers with a tough two-set victory (6-1, 7-5).
With the win, Grace remains in a tie atop the Crossroads League with Indiana Wesleyan with just two conference games remaining in the season.
The Lancers will conclude their four-game homestand on Monday at 3 p.m. when they take on Adrian.
