NORTHWOOD 55, GOSHEN 7
NorthWood rebounded from back-to-back losses with a lopsided win over Northern Lakes Conference foe Goshen at home at Andrews Field Friday.
The Panthers scored a trio of touchdowns in the first period and tacked on four more scores in the second en route to a comfortable, 48-0 halftime lead. Nate Newcomer rushed for 185 yards and three touchdowns in just 12 cries, and Jaden Miller and Ben Mestach each ran for 67 yards and a score in the win. Newcomer also completed 4-of-9 passes for 111 yards with two touchdown completions to Mestach — who led all receivers with 69 yards — and Kyle Sellers.
Jake Lone finished the night with 12 total tackles, while Jason Borkholder tallied seven, and Eddie Hildebrant and Jaden Miller recorded six apiece for a Black Crunch defense that held Goshen to just 111 offensive yards for the night, compared to 509 by the hosts.
Goshen quarterback Wesley VanHoower ran the ball nine times for 55 yards and the RedHawks’ only score in the third quarter, and Drew Worthman recorded 46 rushing yards on 12 touches. Colin Turner completed none of his five passes in Nappanee.
Goshen dips to 1-3, 0-2 in the NLC and will host Concord next week. NorthWood improves to 2-2 with a 1-1 conference start and will host Wawasee in Week 5.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 21, NORTH MIAMI 7
Valley claimed another win in the Three Rivers Conference, beating North Miami at Death Valley.
Tanner Trippiedi accounted for 194 total yards, scoring a one-yard rushing touchdown and passing to Jacob Davis for 39 yards and another score. Jaydin Conley punched in a touchdown from six yards out to put the Vikings up three scores in the third quarter.
Jalen Potter had five catches for 83 yards and Dakota Gaff added 15 carries for 68 yards, the Vikings rushing for 213 yards on the night to outgain the Warriors 335-254.
Valley (3-1), riding a three-game win streak, are 3-0 in the TRC and are now in ‘Bell Mode’ in preparations in defending the coveted Bell Trophy with its visit to Rochester next Friday. North Miami (2-2, 1-2 TRC) visit Whitko next week.
CONCORD 43, WAWASEE 7
Concord won its 16th straight matchup with Wawasee, a streak spanning back to the 2004 state tournament. And Friday night’s game wasn’t close.
After Concord took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the Minutemen scored 29 unanswered points in the second quarter to pull away. Carter Neveraski threw for five touchdowns and ran in another in a dominant performance for the undefeated Minutemen. Neveraski was 27-32 for 289 yards in the air and added 66 yards on the ground.
For the second straight week, Wawasee’s offense failed to break 100 total yards. Parker Young did pass for 93 yards on 7-of-16 attempts, the big one a 70-yard touchdown to LeShaun Morris in the third quarter. Otherwise, Wawasee gained just 18 total yards on 34 other plays, the Minutemen defense holding the Warriors to minus-five yards rushing.
Kam Salazar led the Warrior defense with six solo tackles and Nathan Larson added five solo tackles.
Concord (4-0, 3-0 NLC) visits Goshen next week while Wawasee (1-3, 0-2 NLC) heads to Andrews Field to take on the NorthWood Panthers.
