INDIANA WESLEYAN 3, GRACE 0
Grace’s volleyball lost in three sets at No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday.
The Lady Lancers (4-9, 0-2 Crossroads League) were short-handed after not having their leading attacker Anna Frey due to injury.
The Wildcats (13-0, 2-0 CL) were dangerous in attack; IWU hit 47 kills at a .238 percentage to go along with 10 aces. Grace, conversely, had 31 kills at a .159 clip.
Grace started the match with back-to-back kills from freshman Katie Swanson, who got the start in place of Frey.
The Lady Lancers owned a 15-12 lead in the first set before IWU rattled off a 10-1 run. IWU used that momentum to win 25-20.
Grace held another small lead to start the second set. But the Wildcats used a 10-3 spurt to gain separation en route to a six-point win.
As was the story for the match, Grace started strong again in the third set. The Lady Lancers won nine of the first 12 points and stayed in front until the final moments.
Grace was serving for the set at 24-22, but the Wildcats used a kill and an ace to force extra points. Back-to-back kills from Makayla Bell and Deborah Michalski gave Grace another shot to win at 27-26, but the Wildcats won three straight points to clinch the sweep.
Swanson led Grace’s attack with nine kills, and Gabbey Harrington had seven kills and two block assists. Alexa Hill tallied 28 assists, 8 digs and 2 block assists, Caroline Mayer finished with 16 digs, and Emily Sharp added 10 digs.
