Warrant Issued For Travel Lite President
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Dustin R. Johns, 38, Northeast Wawasee Drive, Syracuse, as a result of a one-vehicle accident Aug. 10. He is being charged with operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more.
Johns is president of Travel Lite RV, located in the Syracuse Technology and Industrial Park, and has reportedly taken a leave of absence from the company.
Since the crash and allegedly unrelated, the company has laid off most of its employees. Company officials could not be reached for comment.
The accident occurred at 2:08 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, on South Harkless Drive, south of Palm Drive in Syracuse. Johns, who had to be extricated from the 2017 Infiniti QX he was driving, complained of pain to the abdomen and pelvic area. He was transported by Turkey Creek EMS to an area hospital.
Police reported Johns was northbound on South Harkless, coming from the intersection of East Bowser, when the vehicle left the roadway approximately 500 feet north of the main entrance to Oakwood Resort. The vehicle struck and destroyed approximately 70 feet of PVC fencing on the east side of the roadway, owned by Oakwood Resort. Johns then reportedly overcorrected the vehicle and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to flip onto the driver’s side. Once the vehicle flipped it slid across the roadway, coming to stop in the yard of Elmer Steele, South Harkless Drive, Syracuse.
The vehicle also struck a fence belonging to Annetta Braddock, South Harkless Drive, as it was coming to a stop.
The charges were filed after results of a blood alcohol test were received.
