Volleyball Results: Aug. 31
NORTHWOOD 4-0 AS PRAIRIE HEIGHTS CHAMPS
NorthWood was ultra locked in during its romp at the Prairie Heights tournament Saturday. The Panthers didn’t allow more than 14 points in any of its four duals, that coming in the final game of the championship against Woodlan, a 25-12, 25-14 final. NorthWood also beat Lakeland, Fort Wayne North Side and East Noble in pool play in straight sets.
Maddy Payne had 34 kills for the tournament and Alea Minnich added 16 kills in pool play. Caroline Mullet had 85 assists for the Panthers in the sweep.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 3-0 AS MANCHESTER CHAMPS
Valley held off host Manchester in its final contest to reign as champions of the Manchester tournament. Valley rallied to get past Culver Academy, hung a straight setter against Tri-Central and scraped together a 25-21, 25-23 scoreline against host Manchester to finish 3-0 in the round robin format.
Stats for Valley were not immediately released from the tournament.
WAWASEE 2-2 AT WESTVIEW TOURNEY
A loss in the final match of pool play tripped up Wawasee’s quest for a title at Westview. In the third place match, Wawasee fell to Bethany Christian to settle for a split in its four matches. Wawasee beat South Bend Adams and Fort Wayne South Side, the Adams’ clincher going 31-29, but Wawasee lost to Westview in two before losing to the Bruins in match four.
Stat leaders for the Wawasee team included Liz Kleopfer with 22 assists and 11 aces, Kai Jamora with 29 assists, Leslie Vazquez with 18 kills, 14 digs and six aces, and Madi Simmons with 31 digs.
WARSAW 2-2 AT MISHAWAKA TOURNEY
In the annual pressure cooker that is the Mishawaka Invite, Warsaw dropped its first two matches of the season. Warsaw went three sets with both Carmel and Elkhart Memorial, but fell short in each, 15-12 to the Greyhounds and 15-13 to the Chargers. Warsaw would pick up two wins against St. Joe and Mishawaka.
Avery Hales continued to provide the opportunities, assisting on 74 points for the Tigers. Gwyn Bellamy had 23 kills and Kennedy Lauck added 18 kills.
TRITON WINS HOME JV TOURNEY
Triton ran 3-0 in pool play, then took down Tippecanoe Valley to win its home tournament. The Trojans defeated LaVille, Culver and South Central in two games each, the beat Valley 25-21, 25-19, 15-8 in the final. Valley beat Bremen and Culver Academy to make the final.

WARSAW FRESHMEN 4-0 AT MICHIGAN CITY
Warsaw’s freshman program rung up four wins to take the title at the Michigan City freshman tournament. The Tigers beat Portage, Chesterton and Morgan Township in straight sets in pool play, then beat Valpo 25-11, 22-25, 15-7 in the final.
Warsaw recorded 138 digs in the tournament, accrued by 10 different players, and led by Delaney Silveus’ 30 receptions. Sophia Adams had a team-leading 16 aces, Morgan Marrufo had 33 kills and Lauren Eastwood added 65 assists, 18 digs and 13 aces.
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN JV 2, ARGOS 1 (Friday night)
Lakeland Christian Academy’s junior varsity volleyball team battled back to win over Argos on Friday in three sets; 21-25, 25-19 and 15-13. The Lady Cougars were led in kills by Maddie Silveus with five for the evening. Leading in the assists column, Hannah Weirick weighed in with seven for the night and Michaela Daeger, during the second set, landed three aces during a 10-point serving run.
