Lancers Upset No. 17 UNOH
WINONA LAKE — Grace’s men’s tennis team registered one of its biggest victories in recent memory with a 4-3 upset of No. 17 Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) Thursday.
The Lancers (2-0) won their home-opener at Miller Athletic Complex despite falling early in the match.
Grace lost an early advantage in doubles play. Fabricio Galvan and Ramiro Candia were the only doubles’ squad to win for Grace, claiming a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Galvan and Candia continued their winning ways in singles. Galvan cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, and Candia battled from behind to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Max Rozas beat his opponent at No. 1 singles by the score of 6-3, 6-2, and Mauricio Corty helped seal the upset with a come-from-behind win at No. 6 singles 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
“This was a great win for the Lancers and a great showing of this team’s resolve and potential,” said Grace head coach Andy Lewis. “We will hope to carry this momentum into the conference games coming up.”
The Lancers return to Crossroads League play on Saturday at Goshen.
