Whirlpool Recalls 26k Glass Top Cooktops
BENTON HARBOR, MICH. — Whirlpool is recalling more than 26-thousand glass range cooktops with touch controls because they can turn on by themselves and create a fire hazard.
According to the Consumber Product Safety Commission, Whirlpool has received 133 reports involving the cooktop surface elements turning on by themselves. This resulted in 14 reports, including 13 in the U.S. and 1 in Canada, of heat damage to nearby items and four reports of items catching on fire, including one report of property damage.
Two minor burn injuries have been reported.
The voluntary recall by Whirlpool also includes KitchenAid and JennAir cooktops that were also manufactured by Whirlpool.
The cooktops in the recall were sold at Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Best Buy and other home improvement, home appliance and other stores and online between March 2017 through August 2019.
The retail sale prices cost between $1,150 and $2,000.
