WARSAW BOYS 7, HUNTINGTON NORTH 1
Warsaw busted the game open early to overwhelm Huntington North in the Huntington County seat.
The Tigers rang up six goals in the first half to command the match. Scorers for the Tigers included two goals from Jose Lara and single tallies from Landon Voss, Tedros Berelsman, Jorge Rico-Giron, Dayne Koontz and Adrian Tanase. Assists went to Rico-Giron, Aden Wade and Ethan Grill.
Ruben Borja earned the win in net, making just one save. Huntington’s Peyton Miller had the Vikings’ only goal.
The Warsaw JV ran away with the match against the Vikings in a 13-0 final. Scoring for the Tigers included Tomas Egseth and Nathan Daily with three goals each, Ashton Wade with two goals, and single strikes from Austin Elder, Roberto Sanchez, Javier Enciso, Ivan Rico-Giron and Alexi Vargis.
Warsaw (4-0) jumps into Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday at Plymouth.
BREMEN BOYS 2, WAWASEE 0
Evan Dippon made 13 saves, including a penalty kick, but Wawasee’s offense was stuck in neutral against the Lions.
Both Bremen goals came in the second half, Lennin Diaz opening the scoring in the 52nd minute, and insurance in the 77th minute from Collin Moren.
Emmanuel Garcia made four saves to earn the clean sheet.
Wawasee (0-1-2) will search for its first win Thursday in hosting West Noble.
WABASH BOYS 7, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 0
The deficit decreased, but Valley was still on the very short end of a big loss to Wabash.
Valley, in just its second game of the season after losing 11-0 to NorthWood last week, couldn’t find the net for the second game in the row. Conversely, the Apaches had seven different players score in Jacob France, Andrew Dinkins, Traydon Goodwin, Wyatt Davis, Paul Cordes, Michael Cordes and Mario Melendez.
Wabash outshot Valley 31-1 in the contest. Grant Carandante and Grayson DeBoard combined for the shutout.
Tippecanoe Valley (0-2) travels to Caston Thursday.
WARSAW GIRLS 5, PLYMOUTH 3
The Lady Tigers got into a shootout in its NLC opener Tuesday, having enough firepower to escape the Class 2-A No. 14 Pilgrims.
Abby Steffensmeier and Audrey Grimm each notched two goals and Corissa Koontz added another for Warsaw. Tess Berelsman had two assists and Megan DeBoest and Zoey Bergen both helped on goals.
Warsaw’s offense exploded in the second half of the JV game to run past Plymouth, 5-1. Kiana Rager, Valeria Marquez-Martinez, Daniela Ochoa, Bonnie Hampton and Makenzie Kohler all scored single goals while Macy Wayne collected three assists.
Warsaw, which dropped out of the Class 3-A top 20 after a tough weekend in the St. Joe tourney, move to 2-1-1 on the season and face its fourth ranked opponent of the season Thursday when it travels to Class 2-A No. 20 NorthWood.
MANCHESTER GIRLS 1, WAWASEE 0
A lone goal early in the second half was all Manchester could get, or need, in beating Wawasee on the Warrior Field turf.
Beletu Stout scored off a cross from Emma Garriott just minutes into the second half for the only goal of the game, and the Squires made it stand up for the road shutout.
Kindra Stetzel made just two saves to post the clean sheet for the Squires.
Wawasee (0-4) will visit Bethany Christian Thursday night.
NORTHWOOD GIRLS 3, WESTVIEW 1
A pair of second half goals from Emma Martz helped NorthWood earn a road win.
Martz broke a one-all tie in the 56th minute with a goal, then salted the match away in the 79th minute with her second hammer. Caitlin Knepp got NorthWood on the board with a goal in the 39th minute.
Isabelle Helmuth had the lone goal for Westview, which checked into the night ranked No. 18 in the Class 1-A poll.
NorthWood (3-0) will get its biggest test of the young season Thursday when Warsaw visits Wellfield Park for the NLC opener for both clubs.
