Area Man Arrested For Battering Woman, Violating Protective Order
SILVER LAKE — A local man was recently arrested after allegedly battering a woman despite a no-contact order established against him.
Jacob Isaiah Craft, 26, 4630 S. CR 500E, Warsaw; also showing an address of 7647 W. Swick Road, Claypool; is charged with domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16, a level 6 felony; domestic battery, interference with the reporting of a crime and invasion of privacy, all class A misdemeanors; and domestic battery with a prior conviction, a level 5 felony.
On July 21, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a protective order violation at an unidentified residence. An officer with the Silver Lake Police Department also went to the residence and saw Craft running north away from the residence.
According to court documents, officers spoke with a woman, who said she went to her residence when Craft arrived in a vehicle. Craft then ran up to the front door, pushed past the woman and entered the residence. Two children were also in the residence at the time. The woman told officers she has a no-contact order against Craft that was issued after a domestic battery incident in 2018. Craft is currently on probation in connection with that case.
When the woman attempted to call 911, Craft grabbed the woman’s cellphone, took it apart and spread pieces of the phone around the residence. While the victim attempted to leave the residence, Craft slammed the door shut on the woman’s finger and stopped her from leaving. The woman then pushed Craft out the front door and locked it. She put her phone back together and called 911.
As she made the call, Craft crawled through a window at the residence and saw the woman calling 911. He then went outside and fled when officers arrived.
Craft was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Aug. 19, with a $20,750 surety and cash bond.
