Life just got better for NorthWood the longer it played Bethany Christian Monday night. In its season opener at a well attended AC building, the Panthers got stronger as the night went on in a 25-20, 25-13, 25-6 win over the Bruins.
Maddy Payne picked up where she left off after a strong summer club season. The senior middle had 10 kills, four blocks and three aces in a full night of work. Caroline Mullet, who played with Payne in the US Nationals in July, hung 22 assists along with 10 digs and six kills. Kennedy Hochstetler added 12 digs and three aces, and Gracie Clark tossed in 10 digs in the win.
The NorthWood junior varsity started its season off right, beating Bethany 25-20, 25-18 to open its season.

Triton couldn’t quite catch Glenn in its season opener, losing 25-13, 25-21, 25-20 in Walkerton.
The Viers sisters, Alyxa and Abbey, combined for 13 kills while the duo of Molly McFarland and Jaela Faulkner combined for 37 digs. Faulkner added three aces, and the combo of Dylanie Miller and Emma Hepler had 20 total assists for the Trojans.
Triton (0-1) visit Mishawaka Wednesday evening.
