SYRACUSE — “If walls could talk,” this Centennial Home farmhouse would ramble on for hours about the impact of the Mellinger family on Lake Wawasee.
Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum presents the second of the 2019 Centennial Homes series at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Drive. Much of the talk will focus on the family farm that became the Leeland Addition at Lake Wawasee.
Join Diana Lung Castell as she talks about her Mellinger heritage. It is amazing to find out how many locations around the lake are tied to this family. Included will be brief information on South Shore Golf Club, WACO Dance Hall, the Mark Honeywell house, Wawasee Fish Hatchery, the Mellinger school and more.
The stories of the original farmhouse and one of the barns, which became a home, will also be shared. Come to discover the stories of these century-old homes and what their present owners have to share.
The program is free to the public but goodwill donations will be accepted.
