Police: Couple’s Drug Issues Prompt Arrests, DCS Action
CROMWELL — A man and woman, both of Cromwell, have been charged with child neglect after allegedly exposing two minors to their drug activity, according to police.
Matthew A. Rasnake, 35; and Tiffany Dawn Hale, 25; both of 9620 N. Sandpoint Drive, Cromwell, were each charged with neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony. Rasnake was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, police were dispatched to the Cromwell residence on Aug. 4 to assist a representative of the Department of Child Services with an in-home visit. Police reported also being told that the mother, identified as Hale, was in a nearby hospital where she reportedly gave birth to a child that tested positive for methamphetamine.
In the report, police told Rasnake to gather some items for the children and when officers followed him into the residence, they reported seeing several smoking devices, both of which tested positive for methamphetamine.
Rasnake was booked following the incident and Hale was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Aug. 13. Hale is due for an initial hearing at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, while Rasnake is scheduled to appear in Kosciusko County Circuit Court Aug. 22 at 8:15 a.m.
