Dennis Lee Newcomer
Dennis Lee Newcomer, 70, Milford, passed away at 5:44 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at Goshen Hospital in Goshen. He was born on July 4, 1949, in Goshen, to Devon Wayne and Betty Lou (Coleman) Newcomer.
He was a lifetime Nappanee and Milford area resident and graduated 1968 from Milford High School. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving as a construction operator with the U.S. Naval Seabees from 1969 – 1973.
He was married on July 6, 1969, in Milford, to Nancy J. Wilson, who survives. He was the former owner and operator of Denny’s Phillips 66, Newcomer Excavating Company, and Newcomer Equipment all in Milford. He retired as a licensed auctioneer and real estate agent.
He attended Nappanee Missionary Church where he was an usher and was part of the Acts 29 Small Church & ESPMen ministries. He was a lifetime member and officer of Milford American Legion Post 226, a Red Coat Volunteer for Goshen Hospital with 1000 hours, and he was a former volunteer fireman.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Kimberly Strawbridge, Syracuse; son, Kyle (Kellie) Newcomer, Syracuse; two granddaughters: Whitney DeLong and Everlie Newcomer; three grandsons: Weston DeLong, Carson Speybroeck, Dominic Speybroeck; mother, Betty Zimmerman, Milford; and his brother, Gary (Ginger) Newcomer, Milford.
He was preceded in death by his father and his step-father, Elmer Zimmerman.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at the Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel, 70417 N. SR 19, Nappanee, with Pastor Jason Rohde officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery with military honors.
