He was born in Fort Wayne on Feb. 29, 1936. He was the only son of Edwin and Eloise (Shenefield) Upson and graduated from Washington Center High School in Whitley County. Following graduation, Ted enlisted in the United States Army. His service to our country began on Dec. 17, 1954, in Indianapolis and he was honorably discharged from Fort Sheridan, Ill. on Nov. 20, 1957.
He was a hard worker. He worked for many years at Schrader Automotive (now Hoffman Brothers Auto Parts) in their storefront. Even in his retirement, he continued to work part-time, delivering parts for the company he devoted so many years to. More personally, he enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife in their RV; the pair had wintered in Victoria, Texas for many years. He also enjoyed old TV shows like Hee Haw and was a fan of both NASCAR and Dallas Cowboys football.
Ted was married to Mary Ann (Stroup) Hutcherson on July 29, 1991 – she survives at home. Also, surviving are two children and four stepchildren: Ronald Upson of Warsaw, Rhonda Coburn of Syracuse, Jeffery (Tranae Crawford) Hutcherson of Warsaw, Carla Lewis of Claypool, Robert (Dawn) Hutcherson of Bridgeman, Mich., and Blaine Hutcherson of Claypool. Twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren also survive. His parents, Edwin and Eloise Upson, preceded him in passing.
