Lake City Skiers Perform Team Routine At National Show Ski Championships
WARSAW — Thousands gathered at Hidden Lake on Saturday, Aug. 10, to watch the Lake City Skiers perform a team routine in the USA Water Ski Division I National Show Ski Championships.
The three-day event, which began Friday, Aug. 9, has brought together the top 14 ski teams in the nation and over 1,500 athletes. All of the teams are competing in the 45th Indmar Division I Show Ski Championships for the national title.
The Lake City Skiers were chosen to hold the national championships in Warsaw after LCS Vice-President Chuck McLaughlin and LCS team member Steve Hawblitzel made a pitch to the USA Water Ski Division I board of directors.
Individual competitions were held on Aug. 9, with the first day of team competitions beginning Saturday, Aug. 10. The Lake City Skiers performed on the water around 3 p.m. with a themed production revolving around well-known movie franchises “Star Wars, “Indiana Jones” and “Avengers.”
During the performance, the Lake City Skiers completed several feats, from jump acts and barefoot water skiing, to large human pyramids with more than 40 people.
Six ski teams in the running for the championship will take to the water from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11.
