Police: Motorist Accused In Aug. 4 Motorcycle Crash Admits To Smoking ‘Spice’
WINONA LAKE — While a motorcyclist remains hospitalized in Fort Wayne in critical but stable condition, the motorist accused of hitting him with a car on Aug. 4, has been officially charged with two counts of criminal recklessness and was reportedly out on bond at the time for multiple other offenses.
Glenn Dale Chupp, 20, 8400 North CR 900W, Nappanee, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Aug. 4 and was officially charged with criminal recklessness, a level 5 felony and criminal recklessness, a level 6 felony on Aug. 6.
Edward J. Frost was severely injured on Aug. 4 when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by Chupp’s 1997 Pontiac Firebird on East Pierceton Road in the area of CR 600E. Chupp told police he passed a car while driving eastbound and admitted he was traveling between 130 and 135 miles per hour. He said his vehicle struck Frost’s motorcycle while his car was still traveling between 120 and 125 miles per hour.
According to police, Frost was taken to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital with multiple skull fractures and a broken leg. He was reported unconscious at the scene.
Chupp told police he had smoked synthetic marijuana about three hours before the accident. Police reported that Chupp was out on pre-trial release and on bond in multiple drug and operating while intoxicated-related cases in Kosciusko County. He is also on probation for offenses in LaGrange County.
