Warsaw Man Among Seven Injured In Three Whitley County Accidents
WHITLEY COUNTY — Whitley County Sheriff’s Office investigated three separate accidents Monday, Aug. 5, that injured a total of seven people, including a Warsaw man.
Rex S. Vier, 56, Warsaw, suffered a head injury and arm fractures in a three-vehicle accident. That accident occurred at 3:03 p.m. at SR 205 and CR 550E. He was flown by Samaritan Air Ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center.
Police report Robert O. Buckles, 43, Kendallville, was northbound on SR 205 in a 2019 Volvo semitractor/trailer and did not notice Sean K. Babbitt, 19, LaFontaine, had stopped his 2018 Ford van to turn north on CR 550E. Buckles’ vehicle struck Babbitt’s vehicle forcing it into the southbound lane and hitting Vier’s 1997 Dodge van. Buckles and Babbitt were not injured. Damage was estimated up to $10,000 to Buckles’ vehicle with Babbitt’s and Vier’s vehicles being a total loss.
Motorcycle Crash
Robert L. Crooks, 55, Columbia City, sustained multiple injuries in a single-vehicle crash at 7:12 p.m. on SR 205 at Widman Road. Crooks was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center.
Police report Crooks was northbound on SR 205 on a 2007 Harley Davidson when he lost control of the motorcycle and laid it down on the roadway. The crash remains under investigation. Damage was estimated at $5,000.
Five Injured
A husband and wife and three juveniles were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 11:38 p.m. at SR 9 and CR 900S.
D. Larry Dockter, 73, North Manchester, and Susan Dockter, 70, North Manchester, both suffered multiple injuries and were taken to Lutheran Hospital.
Three juvenile passengers in another vehicle were taken to Parkview Whitley Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The crash report said Yael B. Ortiz-Hernandez, 19, Pasco, Wash., was southbound in a 2005 Pontiac van when it rear-ended Dockter’s 2015 Toyota. Dockter’s vehicle swerved, left the roadway and rolled over. Both vehicles were totaled.
