UPDATE: One Taken To Hospital Sunday Following US 30 Accident
WARSAW — One person was taken to the hospital following a three-vehicle accident on US 30 Sunday, July 28.
At 3:56 p.m. Sunday, Lutheran EMS, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and Warsaw Police Department responded to the accident on US 30 in the area of Springhill Road in Warsaw.
According to the police report, Robert E. Leroy, 25, Mishawaka, was driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla on US 30, approaching the intersection of Springhill Road.
Leroy said he looked down at his phone and did not realize traffic in front of him had stopped. When he looked back up at the road, Leroy said he could not get stopped in time and his vehicle rear-ended a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Crystal L. Porter, 19, Osceola.
The impact caused Porter’s vehicle to rear-end the vehicle in front of her, a 2007 Honda Odyssey driven by Paul A. Taylor, 69, Fort Wayne.
Leroy complained of pain to his body and had a cut on his left hand. He was checked by medics at the scene and signed off, refusing any further treatment.
Porter was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital by EMS for a complaint of pain and to be further checked out due to being pregnant.
Taylor told emergency personnel he was okay and declined medical treatment.
Damages are estimated at up to $25,000.
