Bridge Work On SR 13 in Elkhart County Begins Monday; Lengthy Closure Begins Aug. 7
ELKHART — The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that bridge rehabilitation is scheduled for S.R. 13 over Dry Run in Elkhart County as soon as Monday, July 29.
Beginning Monday, motorists may experience alternating lane restrictions and traffic directed by a temporary signal between C.R. 148 and C.R. 48 in Elkhart County. Be prepared for stopped traffic and vehicles entering or exiting the work zone. INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through an active construction zone, INDOT said in a news release.
Beginning on about Aug. 7, the road will be closed for up to 45 days while contractors complete the bridge deck overlay.
The official state detour during the closure will be U.S. 6 to S.R. 5 to U.S. 20.
Work on the S.R.13 bridge over Dry Run is expected to continue through mid-October, weather permitting. The contract was awarded to Pioneer & Associates for $573,000 and includes maintenance on several structures across the Fort Wayne District.
