Warsaw Man Arrested After Allegedly Strangling Pregnant Woman

WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly strangling a pregnant woman.
Kyle Logan Backus, 21, 920 Anchorage Road, No. 42, Warsaw, is being charged with domestic battery to a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony; strangulation, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On June 3, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department spoke with a woman who said her daughter was battered by a man, identified as Backus. According to court documents, the woman’s daughter was nine weeks pregnant at the time of the battery and had injuries to her neck and chin area.
The officer spoke with the woman’s daughter, who said she and Backus had a disagreement when Backus spit in her face and pushed her against a wall, grabbing her throat. Backus then started punching her legs and her face, causing her nose to bleed. The woman then called her friends, who took her to her mother’s residence.
Backus was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on July 23, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
