WARSAW — The Baker Youth Club has announced it is opening a new before-school program.
Developed in response to a gap in the community for care for children in the morning before school begins, BYC will now open at 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and provide transportation for students to Eisenhower, Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln elementary schools.
Transportation to other schools may be added in the future. Parents wishing to express an interest in adding transportation to additional school should contact BYC.
“We have been listening to our parents and community regarding the need for a more affordable before school program, so after some discussion with our program committee and board, and with support from Warsaw Community Schools regarding transportation, we decided to try and make this happen for the families in our community,” said BYC Executive Director Tracy Furnivall.
Unlike the afternoon programming, the before-school program is not being funded through grants. Therefore, the cost of the program will be $20 per week or $10 per day. There will be a registration fee, which will be waived if the student is enrolled in the BYC Before-School Program prior to Aug. 1, 2019. The traditional after-school membership is still available for just $100 for the 2019-2020 school year.
In addition, BYC will be open for two-hour school delays as well as day-long school cancellations. An additional fee will be charged in the event of an all-day school cancellation.
The goal for the first-year pilot program is 50 children, said Furnivall.
“With new programs you just aren’t sure what will happen. We have a good idea because of listening to our parents and the community but until you offer it and then have them actually sign up, you just aren’t sure,” Furnivall said.
“We could not be more excited to provide a more affordable option to our parents, with the specialized programs we are offering,” said Furnivall. “BYC has really grown in the past year with the addition of the STEM Center, Art room and interactive physical fitness equipment and now two new daily programs with the all-day summer camp and now the before school program.”
Anyone wanting to register for all BYC programs can do so on the website: www.bakeryouthclub.com. Students can register on site at the Baker Youth Club, 1401 E. Smith St., Warsaw.
