Update: More Details Provided In Sunday Moped Crash
WARSAW — The driver of a pickup truck told Warsaw police he wasn’t paying attention when he drove his vehicle into an intersection, disregarding a stop sign, and struck a moped, whose rider was hospitalized.
Ricky D. Daniels, 59, North Old Road 15, Warsaw, suffered multiple cuts to his body when the moped he was riding on Sunday, July 14, was struck by the vehicle driven by Michael A. Thurston, 50, South CR 25W, Warsaw.
Thurston told police at the scene he wasn’t paying attention and that he was driving his gray Dodge Dakota pickup truck northbound on County Farm Road when he disregarded the stop sign at CR 200S.
Daniels was riding his moped east on CR 200S and told police he had already stopped at his stop sign before proceeding into the intersection, where he was struck by Thurston’s vehicle.
Daniels was taken by ambulance to Kosciusko Community Hospital. Both he and Thurston were given portable breath tests, and neither showed any alcohol in either man’s system.
