Kosciusko
Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
1:59 p.m. Friday, July 12, West Old Road 30, Warsaw. Driver: Calvin E. Jackson, 65, Potawatomi Trail, Warsaw. Jackson was driving his vehicle in a private parking lot and was focused on a pedestrian in front of his vehicle but did not see a second pedestrian, a 12-year-old girl, who was struck by Jackson’s vehicle. The injured girl complained of shoulder and arm pain and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Damage less than $750.
3:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, West US 30 and North CR 450W, Larwill. Driver: Clarence L. Shearer, 31, Lillie Street, Fort Wayne. Whitley County Deputy Sheriff Gary Archbold told Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office personnel that he ahead of Shearer’s vehicle on US 30, attempting to deploy stop sticks as Shearer sped eastbound on US 30, fleeing police vehicles of multiple agencies. Archbold’s clearly-marked police vehicle was in the crossover at US 30 and CR 450W as Shearer approached in his vehicle. Archbold said he deployed the stop sticks in the eastbound passing lane of US 30, but as Shearer’s vehicle approached, it appeared to lose control and began heading toward Archbold’s vehicle, which also had a K-9 officer in the back seat. Archbold said he ran to avoid being struck by Shearer’s vehicle and that Shearer’s vehicle struck the police car, causing the police car to catch fire and killing the K-9 officer. A blood sample was taken from Shearer and sent off for testing. Damage up to $100,000.
Claypool
Officers from the Claypool Police Department investigated the following accident:
1:08 p.m. Friday, July 12, West Main Street, west of North Jefferson Street, Silver Lake. Driver: Michael W. Johnson, 55, West CR 550S, Claypool. Johnson told police he was driving his vehicle westbound and took his eyes off the road, causing his vehicle to strike a utility pole. Damage up to $10,000.
Warsaw
Officers from the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accident:
11:15 a.m. Friday, July 12, North Detroit Street and West Fort Wayne Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Jessi Martin, 22, Spring Street, Williamsburg, Ohio; Linda J. Drielick, 66, West Main Street, Warsaw. Martin told police she was stopped at the intersection of Detroit Street and Fort Wayne Street, facing northbound and preparing to turn westbound. She said another vehicle turning to the east blocked her view and when she made her turn, she turned her vehicle into the path of the vehicle driven by Drielick. Damage up to $5,000.
