Wawasee’s Super Mileage Team Finishes 9th In Final Drivers World Challenge In London
SYRACUSE — A team of high schoolers from Wawasee High School ended up placing 9th in the final Drivers World Challenge held July 5 in London.
According to a Facebook post by a parent of one of Wawasee’s 14-member super mileage car team, Wawasee’s team was one of only two high school teams to make it to the finals — and the only American team.
The world contest began with 140 teams from 40 countries and was pared down to nine teams, including the group of high schoolers from Wawasee. The rest of the teams, according to one parent, were from colleges and universities throughout Europe.
Super mileage competitions are designed to encourage engineers to design vehicles that travel at maximum distance with minimal fuel.
Syracuse and Milford fire and police departments escorted the team into town Friday evening.
