Jerry McCartney
Jerry H. McCartney, 87, Warsaw, passed away at 2:50 p.m. July 5, 2019, in Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester.
He was born April, 3, 1932, to Ray and Elma McCartney. On March 19, 1953, he was united in marriage in Warsaw to Margie Latta, who preceded him on Dec. 31, 2017.
A lifelong Warsaw resident, he worked for Kroger-Owens Grocery Store for over 50 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he was 3rd Class Metal Smith aboard the U.S.S. Perry Destroyer Tender during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw, Warsaw Masonic Lodge #73, Fort Wayne Valley of the Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine and the American Legion Post #49. On March 10, 2015, he was honored as the Kosciusko County Veteran of the Month. He was the first recipient of the Fisher Award, serving as the captain of his football team.
He is survived by his son; Jay (and spouse Renae) McCartney, Warsaw. He is further survived by his grandchildren; Heather Davis, Pam Davis, Samantha McGinnis, Christie (and spouse Zeb) Dotson McCartney, Kerra McCartney, Chris Warren and Jeremy McCartney along with eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his wife Margie and daughter Marcia Davis McCartney.
A visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday July 9, 2019, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 10, 2019, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Post 49 and the VFW Post 1126.
