David Earl Koldyke
David Earl Koldyke, Mentone, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at 11:50 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2019, at the age of 88.
He was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Marion, to Ellen Fern (Anderson) Koldyke and Martin R. Koldyke.
On Jan. 28, 1951, he was married to Dawn Lorraine (Kahler) Koldyke.
David was a 1949 graduate of Marion High School, and he attended three years at Marion College. He was a self-employed farmer with an egg-laying poultry operation, and he had also worked at Little Crow Milling. He became a dual Canadian citizen and ran a fishing resort in Ontario, Canada, for 25 years. One of his favorite pastimes was being able to winter with his wife, Dawn, in Port Isabel, Texas, for 30 years.
David was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 67 years where he was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was thankful for a blessed life and very much loved his family and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Dawn Lorraine Koldyke, Mentone; three daughters: Karen (Jim) Harding, Warsaw; Pamela (Mike) Hollowell, Albany; Katrina (Jim) Calhoun, Warsaw; and two sons: David (Kay) Koldyke, Jr., Hickory Corners, Mich.; Daniel (Cindy) Koldyke, Silver Lake; Also surviving are his 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his brother: Martin R. Koldyke, Jr., Clemson, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and his grandson, Robert Zolman.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. David’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 1 p.m. and officiated by Reverend Michael D. Mueller. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
