Warsaw Community Career Center Announces July Events
WARSAW — The Warsaw Career Center offers monthly workshops that can be completed in increments, with assessments and certifications upon completion. This is the place to prepare for a growing business and manufacturing world that demands more digital literacy and online tech skills. No experience is necessary.
All Career Center events are free and open to the public. The Community Career Center is located adjacent to the Goodwill retail store at 751 Anchorage Point Drive, Warsaw.
The Beaman Home Outreach Hours
- 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30
Every Tuesday, The Beaman Home will hold outreach office hours at the Warsaw Goodwill Career Center from 1 to 4 p.m. to connect survivors of trauma, domestic abuse and sexual assault with services at The Beaman Home. Services include counseling, support group, life skills, job skills and case management. All services are free of charge.
Open Practice Interviews
- 11 a.m. to noon Mondays, July 8 and 22
The Goodwill Career Center will host open mock interviews for anyone who would like to practice their interview skills. If you’re nervous about being interviewed or struggling to land a job because of the process, these mock sessions will prepare you for the types of questions, from basic to personal, that may be asked of you. We’ll discuss how to answer the difficult questions and what to avoid. Also learn how to appear confident and highlight skills in conversation. Another topic will be how personal appearance makes a great first impression. Please choose a date and time to stop by and practice interview skills and receive a 25 percent discount to the Goodwill retail store.
Build Your Own Résumé With Google
- 11 a.m. to noon Thursdays, July 11 and 25
Need a résumé or have one that’s old, outdated or just needs a sleek look? This workshop focuses on providing simple tools and advice to build a résumé on your own through Google. Review wording, key sections to highlight and overall organization to create a clean and professional-looking résumé. The goal is to provide the essentials to create a résumé with a simple foundation that can be built off of in the future.
Jobs In Demand
- 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16
During this presentation we will display the most recent jobs available in the local area and break them down by type and industry in order to determine the best route to obtain them. We’ll cover the skills needed to get the jobs and guide you through the application process. We’ll also assist you in obtaining the skills and education for jobs you’re not sure you qualify for. Microsoft Word For Beginners
- 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 17
This class will introduce you to the Microsoft Word program and its components. Learn how to create and navigate through a document, as well as how to format, enhance, save and print it. You’ll find out how to set margins, use spell checker, thesaurus, insert bullets and special characters like text boxes. There is so much to learn, but starting with a blank page, we’ll lay out the basics for you to begin writing or designing professional content. This workshop is a must for the beginner, but all skill levels are welcome.
Veterans Employment Services
- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 18
Daniel Reed from Work One will be at the Goodwill Career Center to provide information for veterans on services in the local area. He will offer one-on-one employment help, employer resources, information on benefits and contacts for further services.
