Doris Thwaits
Doris Thwaits, 83, of Syracuse, passed away on June 21, 2019, at Goshen Hospital.
She was born on May 27, 1936, in Nappanee, to Otis & Dorothy (Kulp) Hunsberger. She was a lifelong area resident where her loving manner and warm smile was well known.
Thwaits graduated from Nappanee High School. She achieved her Nursing Cap and later went on to become a licensed Broker and Realtor. She enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues over the years. Thwaits was also an avid gardener and kept the dozens of birds that filled her yard very well fed. Thwaits was a longtime member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Most of all, she was a very loving mother, grandma, great-grandma and a friend to many.
She is survived by her son Dr. James (Sally) Thwaits of Syracuse; two daughters Patty Overholt (fiancé Larry Peterson) of Goshen, and Carol (John) Ploetz of Willis, Texas; four grandchildren Adam (Mindy) Thwaits, Jennifer (Allen) Borchelt, Amanda Ploetz (fiancé Tanner Carroll), and Rebecca Ploetz; six great-grandchildren Madilyn Thwaits, Simon Thwaits, Noah Thwaits, Gus Borchelt, Patrick Borchelt and Jude Borchelt; many nieces and nephews; one brother Jack Hunsberger; and two sisters Kim Anderson and Cara Sterling.
She was preceded by her husband, Lawrence R. Thwaits, on March 27, 2018, and a brother, Niles Hunsberger.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Eastlund Funeral Home with calling two hours prior from noon until 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Calvary United Methodist Church, 801 South Huntington, Syracuse, IN are appreciated.
