Alleged Shoplifting Incidents Lead To Arrest
KOSCIUSKO — A man is facing charges after allegedly stealing multiple electronic items on different occasions from Walmart stores in Warsaw and Plymouth.
Jonathan Isaac Fry, 38, who, according to information on his booking sheet is homeless in South Bend, but who has a previous address on file as 2018 N. Clinton St., Fort Wayne, is being charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor; and sentence enhancement theft, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department was dispatched to Walmart on July 23, 2018. A Walmart loss prevention officer told police she had reviewed surveillance footage from July 18, 2018. On that day, the video showed two individuals, a male and female, arriving at the store in a blue mini van. The two then entered the store.
The female is seen on the video selecting an unknown item and leaving the store without attempting to purchase the item. The female then went back out to the blue mini van. The male is seen on video selecting multiple electronics and other miscellaneous merchandise. The male is shown taking the items to a register, and waiting while the cashier scanned the items. Once all the items were in a bag, the male is seen taking the items and running out of the store without paying. The male returned to the mini van, and both individuals left the property.
The loss prevention officer told police she believed that the male individual in the video was Fry, due to another theft that occurred at the Walmart location in Plymouth. She stated that security video showed that on June 14, 2018, Fry and the same female entered a Walmart store and selected a 43 inch flatscreen television and that Fry waited on the grocery side while the female walked past all points of pay without purchasing the television. Fry and the female then met up and loaded the stolen television into a gray SUV.
Surveillance video from June 20, 2018, showed the female entering a Walmart and selecting two televisions, a 50 inch Sanyo and a 50 inch Element. She placed the televisions in a shopping cart and walked past all points of pay without paying for the flatscreen televisions.
The loss prevention officer informed police that on July 14, 2018, Fry and the female entered Walmart and selected sound bars and many smaller items. Fry then attempted to push the merchandise out of the store without paying but was stopped by an associate.
Fry was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail June 19 on a $11,750 surety and cash bond.
