KOSCIUSKO — A Pierceton man was arrested after allegedly attempting to kidnap two minors.
Jason J. Nelson, Jr., 20, 3104 E. Wooster Road 69, Pierceton, is being charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and kidnapping, a level 6 felony.
On June 4, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence regarding a knife being displayed. The officer was advised that the subject in possession of the knife was Nelson and that he left the scene on foot. An officer with the Winona Lake Police Department located Nelson and placed him into custody. Nelson was found to be in possession of a knife with a blue handle.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the KCSO officer spoke with two minors, who said they were at a vacant lot in a mobile home park when Nelson approached them. Nelson brandished a knife and told the minors they were coming with him. One of the minors stated Nelson said he would kill them if they did not listen to him.
The minors followed Nelson out of the mobile home park out of fear he would hurt them if they did not go with him. Nelson’s mother then arrived at the scene and distracted him. During this time, the minors were able to flee from Nelson.
Nelson has already been arrested and released on his own recognizance. He has an initial hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, June 27.
