Nappanee American Legion Begins Fundraising Breakfasts
NAPPANEE — American Legion Post 154, 201 W. Lincoln St., Nappanee, held the first of its monthly fundraising breakfasts during the Memorial Day weekend. Approximately 100 people attended the event.
The post plans to host the breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month. Upcoming breakfasts are scheduled for June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10.
The menu will include scrambled eggs, egg casserole, pancakes, biscuits and sausage gravy, bacon, ham, sausage links, fried potatoes, cinnamon coffee cake and drinks including milk and coffee. The meats, potatoes and scrambled eggs are all cooked on the post’s charcoal grill.
The public is invited and the cost is $8 for one trip through the food line, $10 for all-you-can-eat and $5 for children 12 and under.
Proceeds will go to Post 154 for charitable purposes. “The money always goes back to the community,” said Gary Martz, who manages the post. He cited the Nappanee charities of Open Door food pantry, Boys and Girls Club and needy families in the community.
Every year the post donates fuel money for the buses of the Wa-Nee Community Schools to take third grade classes to the Shriner’s circus in Indianapolis. The post also regularly donates money and personal supplies to the Indiana Veterans’ Home in West Lafayette.
“To me it is great volunteer work to help the veterans,” said Patti Fortier, a post member. “It is a blessing to be able to help them.”
