Sandra ‘Sandie’ S. Hazel
Sandra “Sandie” S. Hazel, 68 of Rochester passed away on May 24, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, with husband Barry at her bedside.
On July 24, 1950, Sandra Susan Ashworth was born in East Lansing, Mich. She was a treasured daughter of Kerns and Lucille Ashworth. Growing up on Spartan Avenue, she shared her childhood with a sister Judy and brother Kerns. In 1968, she graduated from East Lansing High School.
In Mason, Michigan it was Valentine’s Day in 1987 when Sandie married Mr. Barry D. Hazel. They have enjoyed over 32 years of life’s adventures. The Hazel’s moved from Lansing to South Bend in 1987. In May of 1994, they made Rochester their home.
Sandie’s memberships include The Cross, the Red Hat Chapters of Akron and Rochester, the Fulton County Republican Women and the Euchre Club. Sandie enjoyed the political scene and was a devoted member of the election board serving as a poll worker on election days.
Left to cherish Sandie’s memory are her loving husband Barry of Rochester; a daughter Britney Stansfield Walsh and husband Tom of Tooele, Utah; two sons Steve Stansfield of Salt Lake City, Utah; Joe Stansfield of Raleigh, NC; and ten grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, brother Kerns Ashworth and a sister Judy.
A mid-summer celebration of Sandie’s life will be announced soon. Pastor Mike Cloud will officiate.
