Associations Announce Track, Softball Academic All-State
INDIANAPOLIS – Both the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches and the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association released their selections for the 2018-19 Academic All-State awards for the sports of girls track, boys track and softball.
The IATCCC requires a junior or senior to carry a 3.5 GPA or better, seniors must have scored minimum scores of 1200 on the SAT or 26 on the ACT, and juniors to have a minimum score of 1140 on the PSAT. The ICGSA requires a 3.5 GPA, 1110 SAT or 24 ACT and the player have participated in at least 50 percent of its team’s games.
Girls Track
Just two individuals from the IFN coverage area were chosen, those being Honorable Mention All-State in Whitney Wolfe and Jennifer Martinez, both of NorthWood.
First Team Academic All-State choices from the area include Sarah Pepple of Columbia City; Isabelle Landy, Amina Schfeek-Horton, Lauren Sullivan and Xiaohui Zhao of Culver Academy; Maretta Fitzharris, Kaylah Logan, Delaney Norman and Sam Richards of East Noble; Devyn Miller and Faith Quintana of Mishawaka; Allison Kraus of North Judson; Dana Taborn of South Bend Clay; and Maya Benysh and Kiley Stone of Wabash.
Honorable Mention Academic All-State choices from the area include Erin Anderson of Culver Academy; Hannah Henning and Alexis Rhoades of East Noble; Morgan Chupp and Hannah LaFary of Goshen; Ashley Simmons of South Bend Riley; Megan Cooper of South Bend Clay; and Audrey Delano and Hannah Lindenman of South Bend St. Joe.
Boys Track
Two Wawasee track athletes were chosen among the candidates, those being Isaiah Tipping as First Team Academic All-State and Michael Hammer as Honorable Mention Academic All-State.
First Team Academic All-State choices from the area include Drew Diamente, Jacob Ianucilli, David Kryder, Nathan Mills, Nicholas Mills and Alex Sharpenberg of Columbia City; Joe Chandler of Culver Academy; Zach Barker, Demetrius Gulewicz, Felix Perez-Diener and Jon Snyder of Goshen; and Peter Amat, Joe Deahl, Tommy Garnett, Adam Mazurek, Jacob Moon and Bill Powers of South Bend St. Joe.
Honorable Mention Academic All-State choices from the area include Liam Hesting, Hale Jordan and Jon O’Dell of Columbia City; Bryant Grewe, Raul Molina and Evan Yoder of Goshen; Brian Holton of Knox; Levi Dickson and Mark Hiestand of South Bend St. Joe; and Caleb Callahan of Wabash.
Softball
Wawasee and NorthWood also had representation on the softball list, with Amanda Jenkins of NorthWood and the Wawasee duo of Graceanne Kerlin and Bethany Flannery all named Honorable Mention Academic All-State.
